          • HOUSES FOR BIRDS AND INSECTS IN SPAIN

In the partner school in Malaga, Spain there are  the houses for insects and birds in the yards.

HOUSES FOR BIRDS AND INSECTS IN POLAND

Students of 4th grade during the lessons of Technology got to know properties of different materials, including wood. Some of them did an additional task at homes – building a bird feeder. In the winter, they feed the birds and observe them. 7th grade students designed houses for birds and insects.

            NESTING BOXES

The idea arose during implementation of our project. We set up nesting boxes with cameras installed inside to observe the life cycle of birds.

            POLAND

On January 30, 2024, a nesting box for birds in Poland was assembled. The nesting box is equipped with a camera thanks to which it is possible to observe the hatching process of the chicks and their development. On March 31, the box was inhabited by a tit.

Students from the partner schools had the opportunity to observe tits in the nesting box installed at the Polish school. With the help of a special camera, they could follow the birds’ daily activities, such as feeding, resting, and preparing the nest. This live observation allowed everyone to learn more about bird behavior in a natural environment and sparked students’ curiosity about biology. It was also a chance to connect science lessons with real-life experiences and share these discoveries internationally.

            Nature is like a miracle...

            PORTUGAL

As part of our project, birdwatching photo booths were set up in all partner schools. The experiment was fully successful only in Poland, where we captured real bird activity. However, all schools benefited from the experience — students learned how to set up observation stations, practiced patience, and explored local biodiversity.

In Portugal, things took a funny turn — instead of a bird, a snail moved into the nesting box! Maybe in our next project, we should focus on observing the fascinating life cycle of snails. Slow science is still science!

            SPAIN

OBSERVING TITS IN A SCHOOLN NESTING BOX

Students from the partner schools were able to watch live the blue tits nesting in the birdhouse installed at the Polish school. Since the birdhouses in Spain and Portugal remained empty, all the teams focused on the Polish nest box and shared their observations online. Together, they solved common tasks, compared notes, and discussed the development of the chicks, which made the activity collaborative and engaging for everyone.

            INSECTS DONE BY STUDENTS

            BIRDS OF POLAND

First and second grade students made a poster, a booklet and a garland depicting selected birds living in Poland. The art works were preceded by a discussion and presentation of selected bird species. The aim of the classes was to deepen students' knowledge of nature, expand English vocabulary and trigger and develop creative activity.

BIRDS OF POLAND, SPAIN & PORTUGAL

Didactic materials prepared by the international teams of students (Groups 1-7) that are used in Biology lessons in our schools. The students took photos and exchanged them in the team. Next, they prepared the slides to be included in the final slideshow.

BIRDS OF POLAND, SPAIN AND PORTUGAL - COOPERATIVE WORK

International groups of students, each consisting of members from Poland, Spain, and Portugal, worked together to create the presentation “Birds of Poland, Spain and Portugal”. Within their mixed teams, students researched bird species from all three countries, sharing information, photos, and interesting facts. They collaborated through the TwinSpace platform to combine their findings, discuss the structure of the presentation, and decide on its final form. This way, every group contributed equally to presenting the biodiversity of all partner countries while developing teamwork and communication skills in English.

Topic: Tits Under the Magnifying Glass – Observing Birds in a Nesting Box.

Live stream from the nesting box

            The course of the lesson:

            • Short multimedia presentation of the two most common species: great tit and blue tit
            • Watching the live nesting box feed
            • Creating the observation journal and its continuation the for the next 2 weeks, making at least 3 entries – either during class or at home via the online feed.
            • Brainstorming: Why is it worth observing birds?
            • Summary: Emphasizing the value of patience and consistency in observation; encouraging active journal-keeping, preparing one summary page including a description, drawing, and reflection.

            QUIZ FOR THE PARTNER SCHOOLS:

After science lessons students from Poland, Portugal and Spain  created quizzes for their foreign partners, helping everyone take part in each other’s learning. This way they could share their science learning experience and tighten their collaboration. Thanks to preparing quizzes, students from all partner schools could actively participate in the lesson, discover new information, and broaden their knowledge. Moreover, the activity encouraged them to cooperate, exchange ideas, and support each other in learning. This time the quiz was about birds (tits and great tits).

ANIMALS OF POLAND, MADEIRA AND SPAIN

Students from partner schools worked together in international groups to create joint presentations about animals. Groups 1 and 2 prepared the presentation “Animals in Poland”, while presentation “Animals in Madeira”  was created by Groups 3 and 4. Groups 5 and 6 developed the presentation “Animals in Spain”. To make the activity more interactive, Group 7 designed crossword puzzles and quizzes related to the presentations.
