THE DAY OF MULTIPILICATION TABLE
On 7th October 2022 our school took part in the celebrations of the 12th edition of World Multiplication Table Day. The aim of the event is to promote a fun form of teaching-learning mathematics. Its purpose is to encourage students to remember the multiplication table in a pleasant, unusual way. Adults, on the other hand, can set an example for children by showing their excellent knowledge of difficult multiplication cases. The knowledge of multiplication table was tested during short multiplication table exams. 5th grade students were the examiners. They created special Examination Commissions and Patrols. They were provided with special lots and examined their older colleagues and teachers. Those who answered the questions correctly got a small prize and a medal. In addition, math teachers prepared special lessons during which students solved online quizzes and logical puzzles to test the knowledge of the multiplication table.
Multiplication Table Day in math and geography lessons
7th October 2022
As part of the 12th World Day of the Multiplication Table, competitions were held in the following classes: 4b, 5b, 6b, 8a.
The aim of the additional activity of the students on that day was: revision of the multiplication and division tables, checking their skills in terms of a class tournament.
One of the ways to repeat the multiplication and division table was to use the MATKULKI (Other Dimension Mathematics) web application, which the students especially liked. A didactic game based on the popular online CandyCrush games, where the student / player scores points for combining activities related to the knowledge of the multiplication and division table up to 100.
The game aroused positive emotions and the will to compete, which in the second part allowed everyone present in the class tournament to participate.
In each of the classes mentioned, a tournament was held, which was met with great commitment on the part of the students. They had the opportunity to use the popular kahoot application, joining the games individually or in pairs (differently in individual classes).
ECLIPSE
During Geograohy and Maths lessons students watched a partial solar eclipse with special glasses. During the lesson preceding the planned astronomy event, they took part in the activities in the school yard. Their task was to observe the position of the shadow of the gnomon fixed motionless to the ground and then draw the course of the stick’s shadow, measure its length and reord the time of measurement. While discussing various aspects of the Sun's movement along the celestial sphere, the students noticed that the shadow changes its position every minute. Summarizing the acquired knowledge, students drew a compass rose on the school square, marking the cardinal points in Polish and abbreviations in English. During the second lesson, the students and the teachers went outside the school again. In anticipation of the phenomenon, the students had to answer the question: ”What is the cause of a solar eclipse?”Their task was to build a model which they could describe this astronomical phenomenon with. They could use whatever they have in the backpack or whatever they could find in the surroundings or in the classroom. Numerous clearings facilitated the observation, giving the opportunity to see the Sun through a thin layer of clouds. During the observation, the students had a great time and a lot of fun. We will have to wait for the next partial solar eclipse until 25th March 2025.
A visit to ‘Sowa’ Science Center
The Students of the Polish partner school visited the ‘Sowa’ - ‘Owl’ Science Center - a branch of the Copernicus Science Centre. OWL is a small science center where students search, discover and experiment on their own. The exhibits are research stations that can be used to induce a specific phenomenon, change its parameters, observe and check it. How to make a ball hang in the air without string? How to make music flow from our fingers? Students got to experience it for themselves! They could touch everything, freely choose the direction of sightseeing, and in Majsternia they could solve construction tasks and develop competences of the future. OWL is a place that inspires to learn about the phenomena that rule the world, but above all comes to life thanks to interaction with visitors.
ONLINE LESSONS
- PARTICIPATION IN BAKCYL PROJECT
Polish students participate in the Bankers for Financial Education of Children and Youth BAKCYL project. The aim of this educational project is to raise the level of knowledge in the field of economics, cyber security and to inspire conscious actions and build the right attitudes in the field of entrepreneurship.
We took part in the online lesson: ‘Your money’ conducted by expert from the banking sector in economics and entrepreneurship. The lesson introduced us to the world of everyday finance.
We also participated in the lesson: ‘From saving to investing’. The lesson introduced us to the world of everyday finance and helped to understand the role of proper financial management in our life.
A VISIT TO CENTER FOR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Polish students visited the EC 1 Center for Science and Technology, where they took part in classes in the form of independent games and experiments. In the Experimentarium, they actively participated in workshops and demonstrations. They solved logical and mathematical puzzles, assimilated, among others, the concepts of symmetry and mirror reflection. During the chemistry laboratory, in addition to learning chemical concepts, they improved their skills in measuring the amount of substances, precise weighing, converting mass units and volume units.MATHEMATICS DAY
On March 14, 2023, Mathematics Day was celebrated in the Polish partner school.
The event was aimed at promoting learning mathematics among students, developing numeracy and logical thinking skills and showing that learning mathematics can be fun.
During Mathematics Day, students had the opportunity to participate in many interesting activities and mathematical competitions.
They took part in practical classes during which they could use their mathematical knowledge. The children had the opportunity to perform various exercises in which they could discover the value of the number π by means of measurements. During the tasks, they could use calculations on calculators and approach puzzles in a creative way.
In addition, students took part in a photo competition entitled "Mathematics in the lens of the camera". The works of our young photographers were presented in the school newspaper.
The Mathematics Day at SP13 turned out to be not only educational, but also very funny and full of emotions. Pupils learned about the application of science in life and could see that learning mathematics can be fascinating.
OPEN DAYS
We organise "Open Days" for students, parents, teachers, representatives of local community and educational authorities. The students presented the project, its outcomes and results There were exhibitions of project final products.
During the celebration of the 830th anniversary of our district - Kromołów, we promoted our project among the local community, disseminating its results and final products. During the ceremonial academy, we presented a mathematical scene related to calculating what time the king and his retinue will arrive, which referred to the our ‘Happy Maths’ project.

12MATHEMATICS IN GEOGRAPHY
In the 2022/2023 school year, students of the eighth grade had the opportunity to take part in the 7th edition of the Provincial Competition "Mathematics in Geography" organized by the 1st Juliusz Słowacki High School in Częstochowa together with the honorary patronage of the Silesian Superintendent of Education in Katowice and the Częstochowa University of Technology.
Competition goals:
• Supporting and developing students' talents and interests
• Deepening knowledge and skills in mathematics and geography
• Promoting student and teacher achievement
• Motivating schools to undertake various activities in the field of work with gifted students.
Our students participated in this competition for the first time.
The acquired mathematical skills could be presented by them in unusual tasks that went beyond the curriculum (and exam standards) in both mathematics and geography in primary school.
The competition consisted of two stages: school and provincial.
Three students entered the competition. From December 2022, they started preparations as part of additional classes under the care of a geography and mathematics teacher. Classes were conducted once a week.
On February 2, 2023, the 1st stage of the competition took place, after which 2 students: Przemysław and Arkadia advanced to the 2nd stage. The final stage took place on March 9, 2023 at the Juliusz Słowacki Secondary School No. 1 in Częstochowa. Both Arkadia and Przemysław presented themselves very well. Arkadia scored 13 points out of 20, and Przemysław 18 out of 20, thus winning the title of laureate and 2nd place. In addition to awards, Przemysław also won additional points in the recruitment process for secondary schools.
140 eighth graders from 27 primary schools from the Silesian Voivodeship took part in the competition. 25 students from 14 schools qualified for the finals.
