          • Meeting with a Forester from the Siewierz Forest District in the Polish school

The forester, Mr. Zbigniew, presented basic information about the forests in our region and the habits of the animals that inhabit them. The students learned about the species of trees growing in our nearby forests and the types of animals that can be found there. During the lecture, we also discussed how to behave properly when encountering a wild boar, bear, or wolf in the forest — animals that are increasingly being observed in the forests of our municipality.
During the meeting, the students gained a lot of valuable information about the nature of a forester’s work, which is particularly fascinating due to the opportunity to interact with nature on a daily basis.

            CLEAN UP DAY IN POLAND

As every year, the school community of “Thirteen” (Primary School No. 13) took part in the 32nd edition of the “Clean Up the World – Poland” campaign.

Students and teachers  eagerly joined this nationwide ecological initiative, aiming to make our surroundings cleaner and more beautiful. Equipped with gloves and bags, they collected litter from the school area, nearby streets, and green spaces. The event was not only an opportunity to take care of the environment but also a valuable lesson in responsibility and respect for nature. By participating in the campaign, our students learned that even small actions can have a big impact on the planet.

Voluntary Cleanup day at Rodini park

On December 11, 2025, the students of our school's Environmental Club participated in a volunteer cleanup activity at Rodini Park.
In order to decrease the number of litter, and plastics around us, our school chose to take action by volunteering to clean up Rodini Park, sending a strong message in favor of environmental protection.
The aim of the action was to raise students' awareness of ecological issues, cultivate environmental consciousness, and encourage their active participation in the care of public spaces. With great sense of responsibility and team spirit, the students of the Club collected about 7 kg of waste, contributing significantly to improving the image and cleanliness of the park, while at the same time complying with all necessary safety measures and protocols under the guidance of their teachers.

The Experimental High School of Rhodes - University of the Aegean sends a message of hope and action for the Environment.

During October 2025, the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature and WWF Greece carried out environmental actions a few days before the COP30 conference (Conference of Parties, Brazil, November 10-21, 2025) with the participation of world leaders to address the climate crisis. The actions aim to make the voices of students from all over Greece heard at this international meeting.

Students from all grades of the Experimental High School of Rhodes – University of the Aegean actively participated by sending their own message to the leaders of the Earth. They wrote letters in Greek and English, expressing their thoughts, concerns, and suggestions for protecting the planet, and accompanied them with drawings that reflect their vision for a sustainable world. Their messages were sent to the Prime Minister of Greece and the President of the COP30 Conference as an expression of their hope for meaningful action against the climate crisis.

The children's message is clear: "The Earth needs all of us to take care of it now!" The action was coordinated by the teachers in charge of the Eco-Environmental Club.

            ECO-ADVISOR IN POLAND

Third-grade students took part in a special presentation on the occasion of Tree Day, led by an Eco-Advisor from the Environmental Protection Department in Zawiercie. The meeting aimed to introduce the youngest learners to the importance of trees in human life and in nature, as well as to encourage them to care for the environment.

During the event, the students learned how trees grow, why they are essential for our lives, and what benefits they bring to people and the natural world. The Eco-Advisor explained that trees produce oxygen, purify the air, provide shade, wood, fruits, and shelter for many species of animals. The children also learned about record-breaking trees in the plant world—the tallest tree on Earth, the coast redwood, and the largest by volume: the giant sequoia known as “General Sherman.” Fascinating facts and engaging stories kept the students highly interested throughout the event.

At the end, an ecological quiz was held, allowing the students to test the knowledge they had gained during the presentation. Afterwards, in the spirit of caring for the planet, the children planted shrubs on the school grounds. This shared activity not only offered a practical opportunity to act for the environment but also taught the students cooperation, responsibility, patience, and respect for nature. This event was an excellent example of how environmental education can combine learning with action and the joy of creating something good for our planet. Thanks to initiatives like this, students learn that every—even the smallest—gesture matters for the future of the Earth.

Participation of the Experimental High School of Rhodes – University of the Aegean in the “All for Blue” campaign

On Friday, October 17, 2025, the Experimental High School of Rhodes – University of the Aegean participated with great enthusiasm in the environmental awareness campaign “All for Blue”, which aims to protect the seas and inform citizens about the effects of marine pollution.

The entire school community joined forces at Zephyros Beach to actively contribute to the preservation of a clean and sustainable marine environment. During the campaign, an informative presentation was given on plastic pollution and its impact on marine ecosystems.

The presence of divers from the "All for Blue" divers, who carried out underwater cleaning in Zephyros Beach, retrieving waste from the seabed and showing students in practice the importance of protecting the marine environment. At the same time, the students participated in cleaning the beach, collecting and recording waste that was sent for recycling.

The students participated with enthusiasm and responsibility, proving that the younger generation can make a real contribution to protecting the environment. This activity strengthened the spirit of cooperation and volunteerism at our school and highlighted the importance of everyone's active participation for a sustainable future. Special thanks to the All for Blue organization for its cooperation and our school is committed to continuing to support actions that promote environmental education and ecological awareness.

Eco Interclass Quiz Competition – "Family Feud"

Polish school organized an Eco Interclass Quiz Competition for students in Grades 4–8, testing their knowledge of biology, geography, and environmental protection. Students competed in two teams, Blue and Green, answering questions and completing teamwork challenges that required both knowledge and cooperation. Students from the same grade competed in head-to-head rounds, where both quick thinking and knowledge were essential. They had to answer randomly selected questions as fast as possible or strategically pass them to their teammates. In addition to the knowledge challenges, the teams also took part in a creative activity, working together to color a promotional slogan for our project, which tested their cooperation and teamwork. Instead of traditional points, participants earned strawberries, adding a fun, nature-themed twist to the competition. The event encouraged learning, teamwork, and environmental awareness while creating an exciting and enjoyable atmosphere for both participants and the audience.

LISTEN TO WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY

Students of 8th grade in Poland prepared a performance titled “Listen to What We Have to Say…”. Personified natural elements—Earth, Air, Water, and Sun (representing Fire)—they “presented their relationships with humans” to younger students. Children learned interesting facts by listening and asking questions to the costumed characters. They were joined by representatives of flora and fauna. Trees explained their importance for life on Earth, while a deer encouraged greater sensitivity towards animals. During these interactive meetings, younger students discovered how extraordinary our planet is and how crucial balance in nature remains. A human character also appeared, showing two sides: as an advocate of environmental protection, but also—unfortunately—as a threat to other inhabitants of the Blue Planet. The strong interest in the event may help raise environmental awareness and encourage children to use natural resources responsibly.

International Water Day Celebrations in Poland

On March 19, 2026, our school celebrated International Water Day to raise students’ awareness of the importance of water and the need to protect it. The event included an informational display and an art competition, with the best works presented at school. Students also took part in engaging science experiments exploring water properties such as clarity, pH, filtration, density, and capillarity. They analyzed water samples from various sources and found that only tap water, melted snow rainwater, and water from river sources were clean and clear. In physics lessons, students measured water usage, calculated energy needed to heat water, and explored the water cycle. Mathematics classes included water-themed tasks and puzzles, while ICT lessons involved creating simple Scratch projects about water conservation. During biology and geography classes, students learned about marine ecosystems and created interactive photo booths representing coral reefs and polar regions, highlighting environmental issues like coral bleaching and melting ice caps. The celebrations were highly engaging and educational, helping students develop environmental awareness and understand the importance of protecting water resources for the future.

            BEE DAY

We celebrated Bee Day with a fascinating and educational workshop led by representatives of the Beekeepers’ Association from Zawiercie. Our guests introduced the students to the fascinating world of bees, explaining how bees live, what a beekeeper’s work looks like, and why these small insects are so important for both people and the environment. The students learned how honey is made, discovered different types of honey, and found out what life inside a beehive looks like. They also had the opportunity to see a real beehive, honeycomb frames and beekeeping equipment, including a bee smoker and protective clothing. The workshop was a valuable lesson in nature, ecology and environmental responsibility. It helped the students understand how important bees are for our planet and why protecting bees and other pollinators means protecting biodiversity and the future of our HAPPY PLANET.

        • Eco-themed art competition titled “My Mum’s Eco-Portrait”.

On May 26, an eco-themed art competition for students in Grades 1–3 titled “My Mum’s Eco-Portrait” took place at Polish school. The main goal of this creative challenge was not only to develop the children’s artistic imagination and aesthetic sensitivity but, above all, to promote environmental awareness and encourage eco-friendly habits. Through the art of upcycling, students discovered how everyday waste materials can be transformed into something beautiful, giving them a “second life” instead of throwing them away. The task was to create a portrait of their mother using recyclable and reused materials. Our school hallway was transformed into a true upcycling art gallery, showcasing the children's outstanding creativity. Their imagination exceeded all our expectations, as reflected in the remarkable portraits now on display in the school exhibition.
